Hans J. Wegner's CH30 for Carl Hansen & Søn in Japan
We are absolutely delighted that three of our Aerial fabrics have been selected for the Japanese launch of the iconic CH30 chair designed by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen & Søn in 1954.
Above is a quick sketch I made of the Chillerton fabric on an oak (white oil) frame.
Below you see all three fabrics - the Bilsdale (on the left) will be paired with an oak frame and the Caradon (on the right) will be paired with a walnut frame.
The craftsmanship of the CH30 chairs (and indeed all of Carl Hansen & Søn’s portfolio) is second to none. I particularly love the joint detail where the uprights join the seat back. It is this attention to detail and pared back aesthetic that makes all of Wegner’s designs so wonderful.
And I am very excited that I have been invited by the Carl Hansen & Søn Japan team to visit their flagship store in Tokyo next week to talk about our Aerial fabrics in the context of this project.
The visit will give me an opportunity to talk about the design and ideas behind the collection, and the story of their production.
We are very proud to be collaborating with Carl Hansen & Søn on such an iconic piece.
